Well my 11 year old son's sweet gesture just caused me to breakdown (not in front of him). He made my H a Valentine. It was a heart that said "when u are at home with us" and on the facing page was a broken heart that said " when you are not here at home." He got his little sister to sign it. Then asked me to sign it. I told him I can't because it is from him. I have been crying for 2 hours straight. I wish my H had a clue how much his family misses him. Last night my son whispered to me while we were all out to eat "mom, could I try to ask daddy to sleep over." WHY!!!!!!!!

thats so sweet though , my kids are still too young to understand these things but i cant wait till they get old enough where I can feel like im not alone

During the early stages of my separation, when I looked at my children, my already broken heart broke into zillions of pieces.

You have a wonderful son with lots of capacity to express his emotions! Well done!

It's been over three years now since we were a full family. My son still asks at times about all of us being together again. It's hard to explain to him why we can't anymore. I totally understand where you are coming from.

Your childs expression of missing father is also painful for you. You've lost what you had hoped for. Everything I've heard or read about kids in divorce say the same things. Children will need to be reassured parents love them and they have not done anything wrong. There are kids in divorce books out there. There's a rebuilding book titled, "The Divorce Helpbook for kids." Can probably find on amazon.com for cheap.

My little 3 yr old son has a fluffy lion toy that has named "dad", it is actually a great way for him to pretend dad is with him and he thought of it all my himself!

He also has named a toy "mia" which is little baby niece who he misses alot too :)

(hopefully it wont lead to imaginary friend problems later in life , lol)
