Ok. so here I am 4 months and change later. Today I am my future self from the one that started this journey a while back. And here is what I can say as a thank you to my past self.
Ever heard the phrase "Your future self will thank you."? Well here is my thanks.
I am so thankful that I went NO CONTACT. I couldn't have moved forward so well and so healthy without it. It has made all the diffference.
I am thankful for taking the time to worry and take care of myself enough to make the right decisions. Today I am happier than I have been in over a year. I was misearable in the last months of my relationship and was about to make the biggest mistake of my life.
I am thankful for the followind decisions:
A) Joining the Gym: I had to drag myself there and force myself to work out since I was emotionally and therefor physically drained. But it has done wonders.
B) Seeking God: My daily prayers have gotten me through tough times and I couldn't have done it with my strength alone.
C) Letting myself open up and meeting new people.
D) Traveling: Although I have only done 2 trips and going on my third one this weekend it has helped me clear my mind.
E) Daily Affirmations: It helped put a smile on my face each morning which were the worst times of each day for me.
F) Therapy: It got me through the first 2 months and helped me face some inner demons.
G) Daily Strength: Thank you ALL for your advice and insight. Helping others and getting help has made it just that much easier.
H) Reading: Thankfully I decided to start reading which was something I never found the time to do before because she took so much time being so high-maintenance. Now I dove into books and it opened my eyes to so many new ideas and lifestyles.
I) My friends: Although only 3 good friends, one of which is Andynieves which has recently joined our support group, have been my rock through this ordeal.
J) Filling my time with healthy habits: I am at the top of my game at 36. I have never looked better physically and never felt better emotionally. I am working hard. Making money. Not smoking, Not drinking, No drugs (although that has never been done anyway) No partying like an animal. Still I do have a good active social life. I still go out. I am dating. I am enjoying my life. I am the BEST father my daughter could ever ask for and she tells me and shows me all the time. My relationship with my familiy (mother and both older brothers) has never been better. Everything in my life is as healthy as I could ask for.
So Today I thank everyone around me and my past self for making the right choices and sticking to them so boldly. It wasn't easy. Most days I just wanted to stay in bed curled up like a child in my security blanket and not face the world. But I did it. I faced it like a man and took the hits. YES I cried and felt a hole in my chest. YES I broke down a lot. But I kept getting up and doing what I had to do.
TODAY I AM THANKFUL. If I hadn't done it I would still be in phase one and still hurting.
It is ALL in our mindset. Change our way of thinking and every piece of the puzzle starts to fall into place.
