After finding my mom dead last week in her apartment my daughter and I have been having a rough go of it along with my brother. My ex asked me yesterday if it would be ok if her and my daughter made everyone tacos tonight at my house with the works. I was really kind of surprised. I thought about it but then decided why not? 4 months in the breakup I am feeling like I'm really moving on and kind of like my solitude and freedom. For the sake of my daughter and brother I said if your comfortable with that it would be very nice. I think we are actually both in a better place now and I always hoped we could at least be civil for our kids sakes. So this is the first test of that. I think I'll be ok but it's a risk I know. Just gotta focus on my daughter and try and have a nice evening, after losing her grandma she deserves a nice evening. Any thoughts?

It was kind of her to offer during this time when you and your family are dealing with this terrible tragedy. And nice for your daughter to have an ok evening with both her mom and dad present.

I hope it all goes ok for you tonight and that you're able to receive her kindness without any feelings of awkwardness.

I think this is a really nice thing for her to do. Sometimes the toughest times bring out the good in everyone. I hope this is a step in a good direction for all of you. And I'm sorry for your loss.

I am on of the biggest proponents of NC...but I think your situation at this point is a bit different because of the passing of your mom and the fact that you have a daughter together. I think both you and your STBX are making very good decisions based on what is best for your daughter.

Hope the tacos were good...making me jealous about that part...lol

With emotions running high right now, I would be cautious. However, like others said 1. I think it is a very nice gesture. 2. It is great if you guys can have dinner together every once in a while for your daughters sake. If nothing else the "reunion" will let you know exactly where you stand. Good luck and hope you had a nice night.

I will fully admit I'm not aware of your story. I do not know how old your daughter is. I admire the fact your ex can come and be strong with you, and that you can accept it.

My mild suggestion to you, this is going to be a very emotional time for you, your daughter and even your ex. Except the assistance she is offering but keep your guard up as well as making sure your ex does as well, so your daughter doesn't think this is going to fix everything and everyone will live happily ever after together.

I'm so very sorry for putting a negative spin on this, but due to everything being so raw and emotional, you have to continue to be strong.

I think that it is a great thing that your ex is supporting you during this time. And it also shows your daughter that the two of you can come together for a larger purpose if need be.

Continue to stay the strong person you have been. Hope it goes well tonight . And enjoy those tacos. I love tacos lolol

Yup i totally understand. I am anxious to see myself if there is an emotional crash coming. I am keeping it all in perspective so far, and really want us to be able to be civil. The death of my mother last week was terrible for her too, she and my mom were extremely close. I am just happy we could come together and enjoy a meal and celebrate her life. My daughter is 17 and she knows how much better life has been with no arguing and fighting anymore, and I've been sober since the split. I'm not even craving a drink at all, I'm so done with that all all it entails. Well we shall see how this plays on my brain but i think I'll be ok.
