My mom has stage 4 cancer, so far she is doing well, but there is no cure. I feel blessed that I am able to spend extra time with her, while she is still feeling well in relative good health. Tomorrow I am taking her to the renaissance festival. My mom is my hero and best friend.
So many things are heroic....
Im thinking right now about my little hoodie.... it says "My Hero Wears Combat Boots"
The man I love sacrifices his life everyday for ours, and does it gladly. I think thats pretty heroic...
I am glad, though, that she is surrounded by heroes.
Wishing you and your family all the best.
I so wish I could call my mom too. Today would have been her 83rd birthday. SHE was heroic to me...
here's to all of those mothers out there who are doing what must be done and keeping their virtue intact. you are the backbones of your families. :)
I've worked nights on a dementia unit. One of the most beautiful things I've ever seen is one resident holding another resident's hand through one of her last nights. The resident that was doing the hand holding didn't understand what was wrong with the other lady, but she did understand that she was sick. She sang Amazing Grace to her I don't-know-how-many times. Patted her hand, and told us that the other lady wasn't feeling well.
Morning came, and more aides flooded the floor, and we got the resident's dressed and started bringing them out of their rooms.....and the spell was broken.
Another lady, her disease had really affected her thinking and she was absolutely aweful to us. It was a night or two before she died, and her thinking somehow cleared, and she thanked us for all that we had done for her.....
Nights like those are magical and make it all worthwhile.
TML, I call my parents every week to check on them and let then know how much I love them. It is so very hard, they live on another continent, and they are not getting any younger. In fact my dad often reminds me he has passed his "sell by date". He is an amazing man, and has been fighting different types of cancer for about 16 years now. Lately during our conversations he has been making comments that I think are his way of preparing me that he may not be around much longer.
I have to prepare myself for this, because I cannot just get to be by his bedside quickly and easily - it is a 16 hour direct flight and costs tons of money that I don't have. All I can say is thank heavens for skype!! I am grateful I spent time with them in January at least.
So sorry for the loss of your mother.
