this is called theft and I think bank fraud. Is you name on that account? If it is you need to notify the bank that he has written all these checks. You need to cover you a**.

I left for the same reasons. My stbx wasn't that bad yet, but I could see the downward spiral.

If nothing else this is more proof that you did the right thing.
It sucks, but you may have to accept that you will be the sole support for you and your children.

My name is on the account. BUT the bank knows he has written the checks. The bank also knows I am on his a** to get my name OFF of the account. This is a small town, and I know the people at the bank, and they actually feel sorry for me!

Check with your state's laws. You might be held liable for these charges. Maybe it would be a good idea to get a legal separation if that would sever you liability.

My legal seperation states that I am NOT resposible for ANYTHING, financial or otherwise, having to do with his business, or the house for that matter.

I know the feeling :-( My stbx was a master at bounced checks, too. You just cannot get it through to some people that just because the ATM says that the money is There, it doesn't account for Checks that haven't come in...Or, that the Check that is in the Mail may NOT ARRIVE in time...

Why can't You have your name removed from this account? Why can't You just close it? If it is a joint account, You should be able to do Something.

The bank told me he had to sign papers to get my name off of the account, not me. I dont think its a "joint" account, my name is just on it as another person able to sign checks...if that makes sense.

OK, gotcha...you are only on as a signer, like I was with the business accounts. You are not liable. GOOD!!!

Just let your mind walk away from it. You can't do anything about this anymore. Time to lay it down.

Thanks TamiJ, and all of you for your thoughts. The fact is, and I hate to admit this, but I LOVE the fact that I was right about his money problems. I do have to let it go, but the proof might come in handy one day, so I keep digging.

It feels good to have validation. You've known he's a financial disaster for a long time, now you have proof.

Unfortunately for me.. it was all joint debt.. despite him writing all the cheques and being the sole user of the credit cards and line of credit in his name only.. bizarre how it worked out.

My banker knew that I was a better credit risk than the Ex.. and despite me not working, they refinanced me with the mortgage and I borrowed on the house to pay off the Ex, pay off his debts and move forward.
My banker told me after all the paperwork was completed and I had the house that the Ex had called him repeatingly about getting financing, my banker did not return his calls.
The record was clear, the Ex could not be responsible with money. A man who spends freely and lavishly on himself, but refuses to buy groceries and basics for his 3 children.. no Xmas gifts even for them last year. IT was cold and harsh. Glad I had the strength to end it.
