When I was single, I had a lot of money saved up. Then I fell in love and married a guy who had credit card debt and had defaulted on his student loans. What was I thinking??? After I helped him pay it all off, I told him we'd never get into debt again, okay....? I think he said "okay" back. Now look at us. This marriage has ruined me financially :(

Ha boy was I smart/stupid. Was debt free when we first co-habitated. He kept everythig seperate (God love Sallie Mae collections) and yet my FAMILY debt is now MY debt. Where is the line for stupid?

Oh, and for those billboards, Baltimore sucks.

I had money too until I got married. Then she went off the deep end mentally and racked up over 50 K in medical bills and forced 2 bankruptsies in a 4 years time period. So now i pay for them as she is now on SSI and cant be garnished and oh ya she is divorcing me too so there goes my retirment. Life is great is it not :)

Even when marriage isn't in the mix money can complicate issues. I will NEVER guy property with someone again (partner or spouse). It made my ability to leave my ex very complicated and time consuming.

I got away "clean" (sans debt) but had to put up with living in the same condo with my ex for months until he bought me out. NEVER again!

My big mistake was a joint bank account. I mean, my parents made that system work for their entire marriage so I should be able to as well, riiiight?

Wrong.

Any future relationships that involve me living with someone will have 100% separate bank accounts. There is no way in hell that I'll go back to having someone else bleed me dry.

i was married for four years and wised up to the fact that my wife simply did not want to share financial responsibility. it cost me $13,000 to ditch her and it was worth every penny to be rid of her.

I lost financially marrying him. We both have careers that pays us well. I had a home that was paid off and just saved most of my salary. I had a very nice car and savings account with one credit card debt which I kept under 2K. We married, merged and bought a house which allowed us to have all the children with their own rooms and in a very nice neighborhood.

I left him with half the savings which were much less than what I walked into the marriage with...and he got to keep the entire escrow when the house sold.

So, in retrospect, I would have been way better off financially...so, now, I work and work and keep afloat with two children now in college and one entering kindergarten!

Oh and he still owes me 45K of investment money. So, if DEAR EX is reading this....please call the rep and have the money transferred...it's be 1 year and 5 months today since we divorced.
