Funny you should post that topic tonight, I have just had that same conversation with my older Aunt and a married friend I have... they both were encouraging me to find some singles to hang out with, someone who can truly identify with my situation at the moment. So yeah a Bowling League could work or play darts, volunteer, play cards, etc, etc. Its a good plan.. Good Luck

Ck out Meetup.com - I am not sure if you heard of it but is not a dating site. You can link up w/ppl who have interests ranging from Hiking, arts and crafts, baking, to just about anything you can imagine. Also, some local churches have great singles group.

I also second checking out MeetUps. I also attended DivorceCare and met lots of great people who were in the same situation as me. Volunteering is also a good way to surround yourself with people.

As a newly single person, you may want to interact more with woman in the beginning.

Try classes, civic organization, or charity. It's a great way to build new friendships. Furthermore, meeting like-minded ladies may be the best way to be introduced to a nice man down the road.

I am also looking to make new friends but it has been really hard I think to make friendships when you are over 38. It seems most people in that age range are married, have kids or are with their family.

I think its easy to just meet people , but real friend, its not that easy :(

I also agree with the meetup.com site. I used it two years when I first split with my ex to meet people and I found a great volunteer group. I still volunteer with them today. While I like the group, I'm still finding it hard to make lasting and/or close friends. I'm 33 and people my age are starting families and already have close friends.

Butterfly: i agree with you, it's easy to meet people, but not real friends.

I broke up with my ex over 13 mths ago and I'm still having trouble making friends. I'm 25 and idk how to make friends when you're not in school. I have done some meetings, been on dates, joined a softball league but still have not gained friends, people are either much older or already have a group of friends....

I hear all kinds of good things about meetup. I have signed up and havent gone yet. The only thing holding me back is going to an event all by myself and not knowing anyone. I hear that really isnt an issue and the people are usually really nice. Its also nice that its not all about being single.

I've been really struggling with this, my two close friends live far away and being single not ready to date its really limited my social life which just causes me to get depressed cuz I have nothing to do which in turn starts cycle of feeling sad lonely depressed. It seems really hard to make friends, I meet people who seem to like me and we have fun but nothing turns into friendship. I ve looked into meetup but most of the meetups are over an hour from where I live, and I m from small town so people I do know its very high school clicky, like if you date a guy you're automatically liked by his friends girlfriends and included in everything........its really annoying when you just want friends-not dating.
