Breakups & Divorce Support Group
Just broke up with someone or in the midst of a difficult divorce? Breaking up is difficult no matter what the circumstances are. They say that time heals all wounds, but sometimes a listening ear or a hug can work wonders for the heart. Whether you need a place to vent, someone to hold you to No Contact, or need advice about what to do, we're here to help.
I've seen friends try to start relationships with people who are divorcing but still under the same roof as an ex. It leaves a lot of room for trust issues at the start of a relationship. I might be uncomfortable with a new partner still living with an ex.
That being said, your STBX has already found someone, so if you're really feeling ready, I'd say go for it.
I know how much it hurts to long to be held. We all need physical affection... there's reasons why preemie babies thrive with touch therapy. We are not meant to be emotionally isolated. Big hugs!!
Living together is uncomfortable and I suggest that is what you do first as opposed to the paperwork. Having your own space will help create the new you!
I think that you should consider just trying to meet someone who can fulfill your needs. Everyone once to be held. I think if you find a new guy just keep things casual and make sure he is clear that you don't want a relationship. The worst thing to do is to get into another relationship out of desperation.
It sounds hard that your husband has moved on so quickly but truth be told what kind of women is she to be with a married man. Its ridicules and shows something about her character and his.
If you don't figure out how to be content outside a relationship, chances are you'll never be truly content in a relationship.
Another thing to consider is what type of partner you will attract (and settle for) in the situation and emotional state you are in.
This might not be what you want to hear, but I think it's what you need to hear. Of course the choice is yours, but you should at least consider what I've said and weigh it carefully in your mind.
I will add, that getting into a relationship in order to not feel lonely is not a hallmark for a successful relationship.
Having a warm body near you isn't the same as being with someone you connect with.
I can see how the stbx having someone on the side would up the ante for you in looking for someone now, but what HE does is separate from what you do.
My ex, besides cheating, met a woman, got engaged, and married her within the time we have been divorced. Hell, I'm still finding myself...and when it comes to dating? Man, I am a hard sell. I will NOT settle, and I have a kid to think about, so mama isn't going to have a revolving door of Uncles parading around.
BUT....here's the thing: there's a difference between being lonely and being alone. Whenever I feel "lonely", I remember that the lonliest feeling I ever felt was when I was alone in a marriage. That was brutal.
Don't substitute your lonely feelings witth a man...give yourself time to work on you.
If we can't master and be content not being in a relationship, then so many of our emotions, feelings and actions in a relationship will be fear-based and fear-driven. Fear of losing the relationship and being alone. That leads to an awful lot of compromise of self and equal amounts of emotional pain and suffering.
That being said, I know it's very very hard. I have lost my love, who gave so much love and affection, and am scared of the days ahead without any true interaction or human touch.
I was lonely and met someone a few years later, after dating others. I felt then that I was getting older (I was only 35) and felt that this was my last chance. To keep it short, I fell into a marriage that was more painful than the first.
Take time to heal and reacquaint yourself with you. The best relationships don't involve two halves coming together to make a whole, but two wholes making a new, bigger object. I can't imagine the pain, living in the same house with him and that he's bringing his new girl down, but don't let that drive you to something that will torment you down the road.
Take time to heal. Get out of his presence as soon as possible and establish no contact. Then work on yourself to be happy before you go trying to find someone to "complete" you. You are young and have a LOT of life left to live. I (at 44) am now just realizing this. I am still young as well (something that took me time to understand), and have taken the time to work on issues I have. I am now a happier person, that would only be made more happy, by finding someone. Not someone who will be happy when, I find someone. Be patient.
I haven't read the other responses here, but I have a feeling they will be similar to the advice given here. I know it's painful, but save yourself future heartache and pain, by listening to those who have lived it and learn from their experiences. Don't turtle up, come out of that shell. Look at it as the ending in a chapter of your life. The next chapter is yours, to be written.
