I felt very uilty for leaving, but at some point I decided that it was a waste for me to continue to live w/an alcoholic who lied about everything and was abusive in many ways. I always excused his behavior and blamed 'the alcohol.' I now know it was HIS CHOICE to drink and HIS CHOICE to act that way. Sad to say, I wish I had left when the kids were young. By staying, I allowed horrible damage to be done to me and my kids. That guilt is worse than the guilt of finally deciding to leave him.
Mental health, or lack thereof, isn't a very good excuse. it's a cop out. UNLESS he is going to therapy at least once a week and/or following dr's orders.
I'm betting that he's not doing a damn thing to work on himself.
Based on what you've written here, his actions belie his words. He is not being responsible or accountable for his actions (and lack thereof) in regards to his son or you or your daughter. He had no right to dump the responsibility for his son onto your shoulders. I know its hard, but his son is not your responsibility.
Please put you and your daughter first.
~healing hugs~
