Trying to find the words...trying to figure out what the "F*&%" just happened to me for the last 5 months of my life. I feel I may have been targeted by a sociopath but I am in denial still and trying to believe it was all "normal & real love." Anyone have any experience or advice with this kind of situation/person?! Trying to forgive and forget and move on, but I am stuck.

Sociopaths basically lie, cheat, con and steal from you, was this your experience?

@ PeteMasonbe lied about where he lived, asked me for money, to pay his car insurance, to get an aprtmen for him , etc. Not sure about the other stuff.

My spouse was VERY disturbed, but she doesn't know that. That's the one thing that I can't stop thinking about (when I have nothing else to do.) Did she know that she was being cruel and abusive to me or did she think she was justified?

Have to add that I actually convinced myself that I deserved to be treated the way she was treating me. Emotional, physical, verbal, spiritual, she done it all. So yes, I have A LOT of experience with a sociopath. Her mother also lived with us and she was worse.

Could also be a psychopath. They are almost identical to a sociopath. And yes, they know what they are doing and know it's wrong and choose to do it anyway because they pick and choose who to do it to and who not to do it to. They pretend to love to get what they want and then discard you. If they have not shown remorse for what they did, stopped the behavior and asked for forgiveness, then there is nothing to forgive. You can just move on. You deserve better than this. You have a right to be treated decent. Do you treat people you love like this? No, so you know it was not normal or real love. There is so much online information about sociopaths, psychopaths, and borderline personality disorder. These are becoming more and more common in society and those of us who aren't one would do well to learn all about it so we can protect ourselves when we have to deal with one. They seem to target people who display certain characteristics like kindness, empathy, etc. because they deem these good traits as weakness. It helps to learn how to still be these good things while setting boundaries so you can still be good to others while not allowing these sorts access to you. There is information about healthy boundary setting online too. I was raised by parents like this who then pressured me into marrying one. Took me until I was 41 to stumble across narcissism information which then led me to sociopath, psychopath, and borderline personality disorder. Really opened my eyes and helped me to heal and move forward. You'll be alright.
