Thanks for the link. I love it when people do that. I've found more helpful sites that way than any searching on Google could do!
It took me 8 years after my first marriage to remarry. I didn't even think of my first husband (he had hit the 2 month old infant and the baby and I left him for good) nor did I even consider writing a letter to him when I was getting married again. We weren't friends and he didn't visit his child and had stopped paying support several months after I left him. So he didn't even enter my thoughts. Maybe because I was over him.
I personally wouldn't suggest to anyone going into remarriage to write letters to their first husbands. Your new husband might not appreciate it since your focus would normally be on him, but I would hope your issues with your ex would have been closed and not a part of your thoughts.
My concern would be if you have to write that letter and bring it up right prior to your second marriage, maybe you haven't let the first marriage go and you're not "over it." Maybe consider holding off on the second marriage until you don't need to send that letter to the ex.
That letter is still like the umbilical cord to the first husband that you didn't cut long ago when you should have. Write the letter and BURN IT and you'll still feel really good.

Just as an example, if I get remarried down the road, I would think it would be impossible to NOT think of my ex, even on the wedding day. Our marriage lasted 18 years before we separated, and honestly only the last couple were not good. I would argue that for me to not give my prior marriage a second thought would be unhealthy. What happened with the first marriage does have a direct bearing on why there is a second one.
