Is there a light at the end of the tunnel?
I decided to leave my husband of 20 years a year ago last January. It was the end, I no longer wanted to be there. He had 17 jobs, totaled 7 cars, and wasn't able to pay bills. Essentially I had to take care of him. When he became physicall abusive and could no longer get out of bed to go to work I decided it was the end. Yes, he is diagnosed bipolar.
He told me he would agree to the divorce. I even let him decide all the terms and had an attorney draw up the agreement. After he had the agreed divorce papers for 3 months and had not signed, I proceeded to file for divorce. This past January, he told my attorney he was going to sign the papers. We showed up at court on the appointed day and he told the judge he was contesting the divorce.
I have had a year with no child support or help. Originally, my two older daughters were supposed to live with him so they could finish school. He kicked them both out of the house. One moved in with me and I helped my oldest move in with a friend. He has moved renters (two drug addicts) into the marital residence. He is on his 3rd job since the separation. Yes, that brings him up to 20 jobs.
The divorce is breaking me financially to the point I have given serious thought to just giving up on ever getting one. We have no assets to really fight over. He wants the house. I told him he can have it but he has to refinance it so my name is no longer on the title. I have been told there is no way around this by two attorneys now.
We go back to court in a few months. More than likely we will be ordered to mediation. (In our state, you can be divorced in 3 months if both parties agree.) He is dragging this out. People tell me he doesn't want the dirvoce but he says he does and he has already moved another woman as well into our home.
What happens when you just run out of money in the middle of a divorce and can't continue financially? He hasn't hired an attorney yet and I keep paying attorney fees for him to drag this out.
I just want this nightmare over for my children and myself.
