I have been dealing with some feelings of guilt about leaving my husband for a various number of reasons.
I have been a part of DS since 2007 and found it because I needed help with dealing with him and issues. Today I spent some time rereading my journal entries from back then and can see the extremely obvious pattern our marriage took. His mood swings changed with seasons and there was common thread and that was his drinking is out of control and I am tired of living this life.
Now it took me 4 1/2 years to make a move and I am glad to see that my decision wasn't rash and I have valid good solid reasons for walking when I did. This isn't something that I have dealt with for only a short period of time or haven't attempt to discuss with him or work things out.
I gave it my best shot and did everything in my power to help this man but I just couldn't do any more.
I am more at peace with my decision now than I have been before.
5 weeks today and counting...

It's really hard to break those patterns as well, but once done, at least in my case, it's like a rebirth. You see the world through different eyes, at least I have.
This is SO ME!!! 30 years of watching an alcoholic let the addiction completely consume him and he wants it MORE than anything in the world (including me). God grant me the serenity....
I've accepted the things I can't change - he has to change himself.
I've changed the things I can - and am becoming a much better person for it.
And am GRATEFUL for the wisdom of knowing the difference.
