I have been with the same guy for five and a half years. A few years ago things started to get difficult. We both had said to each other many times that we could work through the difficult times and get through it together. After all, I loved him more than anything in the world. We started dating when we were 17. We became adults together. We did everything together. I thought I would be with him for the rest of my life. We used to talk to each other all the time about our endless love for each other. He recently told me that he isn't in love with me anymore and he doesn't want to be in a relationship. I kept hanging on to things, hoping he would change his mind...I am now coming to the realization that he no longer wants me in his life. I am currently experiencing the darkest point in my life so far. I would never wish these brutally sad feelings upon anyone. We moved in together three summers ago. It was this cute A-frame house on a lake. I was in love with it. Then we got a puppy - Josie. She is two years old now. She's the sweetest german shepherd; she comforts me and encourages me to go outside. It seemed like everything was perfect. Unfortunately, typical relationship problems began to arise and after trying our very best we thought we might have success going on a "break". We thought that space from each other would be healthy for us. We could spend time focusing on our own interests and our own friends. It's been a month and a half and he broke the news to me. He really doesn't want to be in a relationship. I shut down. I can't imagine having a life without him. He told me that he feels like he lost his identity somewhere in our relationship. He said that he used to be passionate about things and now he feels numb. He has told me about his depression many times. I usually don't know what to say. I have it too. I told him he should find a therapist to talk to but he's never done it. Since our break, I've done everything I wanted to focus on. I started taking open adult ballet classes (I'm a former dancer), I started hanging out with more of my friends, I lost almost twenty pounds (I'm on a strict diet), and yeah...it made me miss him even more. He obviously didn't feel the same way. He used to love me so much. I guess he just lost interest in me. He's told me multiple times that "things aren't the same as they used to be". At this point, all hope is lost for our relationship. We are going on a vacation with some friends in a few days and we have been planning this trip for months. It's going to be fun/heart-breaking. What's next? He's going to feel free from the burden of me and I'm going to crying in my pillow like I have been doing for days. When we went on this "break", I moved back into my old room at my parent's house. Yes, I feel pathetic. I was just sobbing about a half-hour ago and I was trying to sob quietly so my parents wouldn't hear. Pardon my french, but FUCK MY LIFE. I will have to stop sending texts to him. It's not fair to hold him back any longer. I feel like I could snag another cute guy if I felt like it - that's not the issue at all. He is the love of my life. And I just can't seem to get over him.
