So I am approaching the end of week number two living apart from my stbx. I have posted on here recently about my fear of him contacting me from the hospital after his surgery tomorrow and me caving by going to help him. I am confident that I am strong enough to resist any such request despite the fact that throughout the week he has been texting me telling me how bad he feels for hurting me, how he didn't think he would miss me so much, how he is having more trouble than he thought adjusting and that he thinks maybe he really is in love with me. While not necessarily believing one word of it, I did not ignore his texts because truth be told I was still trying to "make nice" in hopes that he would sign the separation agreement before his surgery. Last night when he was texting me making small talk he mentioned that his lawyer "finally" called him. I said "good". He said "are you really in such of a rush?'. I said "well I hoped to have it all signed before your surgery". He said "not going to happen". Then he asked me how I was doing. Once I realized that the agreement wasn't going to be finalized for at least another month, I didn't want to talk to him anymore and did not respond. He sent me three more texts after that..."do you want me to just leave you alone?"...."If that's what you want just let me know and you won't hear from me."..."your lack of response has made it clear what you want". I didn't respond to any of these texts. Why do I feel like an idiot? Because I feel guilty for ignoring and rejecting him. How stupid is that? He ignored me and rejected me for a year and in some ways our entire marriage. Why do I feel like this? I am continuing to stay strong and I will not waiver...I just don't understand why I still feel sympathy for this a-hole. Any thoughts?
