So I moving back to the kids soon and two of my kids are teenagers and my friend keep telling me I need to start "texting" Really? I must be old school because I just call someone....the most important thing for me is keeping in communicate with the kids.

I would like some feedback.......Do I need to join the new millennium and get out of the '90's?

if your kids are somewhere they cant answer the phone it would be nice if you could text them. get a touch screen or a blackberry that has a full keyboard so its easier. also- if they have camera phones they would be able to send you pictures via text too..... then you would be in communication on all levels.

and just think how hip your sons will think you are- : )

Yes, you really need to get with the times! lol. Once your kids text, fb, vidchat, you can't ask them to unlearn it. Better that you open up another mode of communication by learning it yourself.

I was a texting hold out. My kids do it a lot and I will text them occasionally if I know they are busy. I can leave messages that way, and so can they when I'm busy.

Much prefer phone though and will call back after a text usually. I think it's handy as long as it's not used as a replacement of phone or face to face.

I only communicate with the STBX by text now. And that's only if absolutely necessary. The kids I communicate with by many means.

I don't think it's wise to text a great deal to a prospective date. It creates a false intimacy.

Personally, i text with my 12 yr old, but if you can keep in touch with your kids via phone conversations, I would suggest you do it for as long as possible. Good Luck.

I would say that it would be a good thing for you to learn. Especially for your kids. They probably would enjoy it and it would help you be on their level. My dad and I text each other a lot. Plus if you don't answer right away they won't think you are ignoring them.

I found that Facebook has helped my middle son and I to stay connected....he runs a program and I'm his #1 fan on Facebook. I just checked out the prices on Verizon.......you pay the price to stay, "Connected" to your kids......Would it be awkward to ask them to walk around with a soup can and a string?

my kids aren't teens, but if I want to get ahold of my teenage babysitter in a hurry, I'll text her. She'll respond in 5 minutes or less. I have an iPhone, I have to admit, I don't like the touch screen keyboard, but I do love everything else about it
