Hello, all! I'm really appreciative that support groups exist because I'm not sure who else I could turn to. Last night, I found out my boyfriend of 7 years (minus two months of breaking up in between), told me he had been talking to someone he'd met through a friend. He also went on to tell me that the talking and texting had lead to him cheating on me and having sex with her. I feel like I'm living in a haze. What hurts more than this becoming the end of a long relationship and longer friendship, are the self deprecating thoughts I have had bombarding me nonstop for the last eight hours. Even sleep was impossible because I just can't stop the thoughts of: I'm not good enough, not pretty enough, not thin enough, not sexually experienced enough, not kind enough, not loving enough, not outgoing enough, not supportive enough, and on and on and on. I just keep thinking that had I been enough, the cheating wouldn't have happened. And that leads to an even bigger emotional slippery slope of: why makes her better than me, will anyone ever be interested in me, will I ever find a genuine love, what's the future hold for me now that I've lost the person I considered to be my safe place? I'm searching for any advice from those who might have gone through a relationship ending because of the partner cheating and anyone having to deal with these thoughts as the result of a breakup. If anyone has any suggestions on ways to get through this and start to heal, I am beyond grateful. Thank you to those of you who took the time to read this. To anyone struggling with similar situations, I am truly sorry you're having to experience this emotionally draining torment. It is a pain like none I've ever experienced before.
I've seen the hottest people being cheated on. This has nothing to do with you. There's nothing you could have done to prevent it. He cheated because the opportunity presented itself. The first step of cheating was him leading himself into that temptation by continuously talking to the girl. Don't blame yourself because he failed to commit to an awesome woman.
Right now you should focus on healing and being at peace. We'll worry about meeting people later. But I promise. When you are healed and whole again. When your confidence is restored. You will attract the right man.
