I am new here- have been reading the posts and can relate with so many of them. I have just ended a 35 year long marriage.... very painful.. but it was my choice. He is a great guy but we had nothing left between us the last several years. I found someone else (old boyfriend) and we had a great time together- but when his ex wife found out about us she wanted him back. And he went back. So I am really dealing with 2 breakups.... I have never been on my own and find it so uncomfortable. I feel like I am on a roller coaster. I see how much I want to reach out to my husband but I know its not healthy for either of us.... I am out of the house and my kids are grown and have moved away. I work from home and realize that needs to change as I feel lonely.
So how do you take those first steps? I know I need to 'find myself' but have no idea how to begin that process..... Any advice?

First of all welcome to your NEW life. It is hard to adjust to at the beginning but once you accept it and the possibilities it has to offer you will prosper. I was too married for a very long time. It was my life and then my marriage fell apart and my kids were all grown and it was just ME. It was a very abusive toxic marriage so it was best. So start looking at your life as just that it is YOURS. Take care of you. I started to do things I wanted to do while I was married but just didn't. I made a bucket list and it had 12 items on it and decided to work hard and fulfilling each item on it. I am now a year and a half later and have 2 items left. Those items also included counseling so that I could get my mind healthy and realize that I needed to make myself happy and that my happiness depended on me and not another person. That was the hardest thing because I was a people pleaser. I joined the gym and made it a goal to eat better and lose some weight and I have succeeded at losing almost 70lbs and I feel great. I joined a bowling league and that is so much fun. I also volunteer at the local DV shelter so I keep busy and recently opened up to dating again. Something that I put off for a year so that I can work on me and now I have met a wonderful man who I have allowed to join my happiness because I realize you should never depend on another individual to make you happy that puts to much expectation on the relationship and then it will not work. So here I am as happy as I want to be and my heart has healed. Yup it does and I have learned so much from my past that I know what I will not tolerate in my future. Occasionally I look back and smile just to see how far I have come after 24 years of being in a bad situation. Life is what you want it to be so grab it and make it GREAT. Good luck to you . Keep coming back this site is great.B~

yes you really are...... I feel like I am still in that 'stuck' place.... trying to do things for myself but having a really hard time accepting that the life i thought i would always have is gone. And the next life I thought I was going to have is gone too. I know i need to get to that better place that so many of you talk about - it just seems so far away.
