Hi,
I broke up with my 3 year BF in June, I kicked him out ( alcoholic.)
How do you know when to start dating again? I don't feel ready now even though I stopped loving him last winter, that is when his drinking started to get really bad.
I have never been good at doing my own thing, being alone. I am going through extreme loneliness right now and can't use that as an excuse to start a new relationship.
I feel mildly depressed now, can't sleep and nothing interests me.
This is not the worst I have been. I have been divorced more than 10 years and have had one really bad break up since then.
I would like companionship right now but it's so hard to meet people my age.

Try not to jump into a new relasionship right away . I know it's lonely but you have to find yourself first. If you go into a relationship now you will feel relief to your loneliness temporarily, but it will hurt you more if it doesn't work out. Your in a fragile state , not a good time to find someone because you might look over things that are bad . Give yourself time to heal , say I'll go 6 months without thinking of being with someone. Focus on friendships and work. You will feel more ready once you give yourself time to heal. You have to try to fill the void within yourself first or that void will carry on to other relationships.

I was in a relationship for 15 years. I came home one day and my girlfriend told me she was leaving. I was devastated. this was 6 years ago im glad to say that we are still good friends and have been for 26 years. anyway I thought I was ready after 1 year to start dating will I was not ready I was still not over my ex and it was very unfair. we are all very different but just no you will no when its the rite time. take it slow when the time comes. I would not think that it is so hard to meet people in your age. You are still young. I think that there is nothing wrong with going into relationship again but may be there is no need to live together right away. It is may be good to enjoy dating so if person makes you tired you could escape to your own house and be alone when you want to.

Makes it sounds like the only people we are going to have a chance to meet are other seniors in the retirement home. We can socialize over our jello and games of canasta.
