Divorce can be compared to the seasons. It is pretty simple and it also shows you how it is a cycle and it will come to an end.
Imagine that the beginning of your striffe is the end of summer. You know that bad weather is ahead and sometimes you have enough warning to prepare a head. Most of the time you don't prepare and fall sets in quickly.
The beginning of the fall is the separation. The temperatures begin to drop and things begin to die around you. This is the symbolism of the relationship dying. As you look ahead you know that it is going to be a long, cold, and hard winter.
Winter is when the divorce first sets in. Things are cold and dead around you. You are emotionally drained and it is kind of depressing, like the cold temperatures of winter.
As all things go on a cycle, so does divorce. So after the winter spring will come. Sometimes it is slow to come but things thaw out, new possibilities show themselves like budding leaves or budding flowers, and life begins to renew itself.
At some point the divorce process will be over, it is inevitable. At the start of a long cold winter it seems like it will never end but it always does.

I am a winter verging into spring.
I realize I made peace with the fact that he abandoned me back then.. and I'm grateful I could make so much progress on my self-esteem without having to simultaneously deal with the logistics of divorce. Now I feel capable of doing that... and I suspect in some ways that if he hadn't left, I was going to have to move on because he was just going along for the ride when it was fun. He wasn't showing up as my partner.
The only thing about the seasons of divorce is that they aren't metered by an equinox.. so it might be a very long spring. But I believe I already had my fall and winter. Mixing in another metaphor...I believe it just may be that he was in my way, blocking the light I think I now see at the end of the tunnel.
Spring in Cleveland is the cruelest season :)
