I really don't like Holidays anyway. Everything is so commercialized and all that matters is who gets the most toys. Also that is the time of year that people get together because they feel they have to. Not because they want to.
I'm glad my son, and hopefully my daughter get to spend the day with her.
I'm not a holiday person either. My father passed a few days before Christmas, and it's taken me years to recover. Just celebrated for the kids, but now thet they're grown, I just decorate to keep spirits up.
I feel bad for my ex, his dad passed when he was 15, his oldest brother just passed, and now his mom is close. So, it's just easier to talk to her at the time.
So, I was glad I talked to her. When I finally came home, son and ex were still not home, so hope they had a good day.
Now, have to brave crowds to get niece a present, and make, a family passed down dessert. It's something we had at every family gathering, and my sister totally forgot to make it, so I offered to bring it.
I love seeing my family, just wish our other sister and brother felt the same about seeing us. My sister has an open door policy, if your passing by, stop in. My boyfriend actually has stopped by, and they don't mind. He has only met part of my family at one gathering. He doesn't like intruding on time with my son, and the past few years we've had conflicts with his parents doing something the same day.
My sister realizes that in the 3 yrs we've been together, he and I talk to each other more than my ex did in the past 15 years. My ex hated family get togethers. What's the point of driving an hour each way to stay 2 hours? My ex just hated when my sister brought out the games, my brother-in-law started the card games. We were always game players in our house. More than too many times, he took the kids and left me to find my way home. I couldn't drag my boyfriend out of my sisters' because he was playing cards, grew up with my sister's brother-in-laws room mate from the college we went too, and then the hunting.
Anyway, my MIL commented that my son likes my boyfriend, and she's glad. She also stated that with her children loosing their father during their teens, it warped them. Relationship wise, they are dysfunctional. She also said that her son's wives tried, her sons didn't. And that her daughter-in-laws made the grandchildren into the adults they are.
