You have helped me in the past with moral issues. When embroiled, it can be difficult to make the "right" decision.
My ex and I went through an awful divorce. Prolonged, expensive, and he continues to manipulate me through paying alimony when he wants in the amount he wants. We were married 25 years. He walked away, from me, his children, his home, his pets, never to be seen again. He is an awful man.
When Richard left he neglected to make a change of address. Mostly to his creditors.... you know, the people that he didn't want to hear from. I have told him over and over to make the change of address. He does what he wants. Over the weekend he received a check from his very little retirement fund from Kodak. You see, he had previously wiped it out to repay a $120,000 debt he got us into.... Another long story. This check is very little. But here's the point. Again, he has been told to change his address, and not only that, half the check is mine. The divorce decree made half of his retirement fund mine, except that he never added this retirement fund to his assets because it is so little.
Here's the question. Do I deposit the check in my account and mail him a check for half? If I send him the check, I know I will never see any of it. He is just that way. If I tear the check up, it still won't get to him because they don't have his address. Do I keep it all, just because he keeps money from me?

while you are on the phone with the lawyer, ask them about this issue with the check. if you are legally entitled to half of that check, what is the big deal in keeping half and sending the rest to him?
ask the lawyer what the best advise is.
when my ex stopped sending alimony on the designated date that he decided on to put in the divorce decree, i contacted the lawyer. within 2 months i was getting the check before the date it was due.
thats why we do the legal process - its a legal binding contract. it is against the law to not do what is in that contract.
If you don't have a good lawyer, get one.
You don't want to get in trouble.
