I really couldn't say there is an acceptable time but if you feel that the reasons for not letting go are due to obsession, constant thoughts, thinking what could I have done, they have done, what could have been done differently when it is clear that the relationship is over...
All I can suggest is that you should search those feelings, and one of the best ways to release those thoughts is to seek profesional help. At least, in that case you will get (for the most part) an unbiased reflection of feedback from someone who is trained to help and deal with these types of situations. A LMFT, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist comes to mind...
That is all the above step suggests...as a helpful tool...
