This is not my story, but it's about my gril friend.
They were crazily in love for 4 years. The man is now 27 and the girl (my friend) is 28. They were the perfect couple that every one wanted. Beautiful. Sexy. Successful business people They kissed and hugged in the public; announced their crazy love to everybody; met each others family He bought her whatever she wanted, paid every single thing for their life living together
2 and a half year ago, the girl said that she wanted him to think about long term vision, that meant he must envision their life together, make a long term plan with her. He was scared and thought that she wanted to get married right away. They broke up for the 1st time. 6 months later, he said he wanted her back, that he really envisioned her as the mother of his future children, his big love, his the one. So they were back together.
A year ago, she asked him about the timeline for them to get more committed. She gave him one year to think about it. 6 months ago, they were both promoted in their companies. He works in a global wine business and has become the Sale Director of the Region. He started to travel a lot. She works in a global real estate company and has become the Head of Department.
A month ago, he received his bosss instruction to move and base in Hong Kong. She repeated her requirement of his commitment and said that she might sacrify her career and every thing in order to move with him to Hong Kong, if they got (at least) engaged. I think thats a fair requirement. I guess you agree with me: It is fair for trading off her career, family, friends, successful future for a ring.
Till that moment, he still said he wasnt ready and proposed a long distance relationship for a while, and would see about it later.
My friend, she was so disappointed. After all those years, all the difficulties that they had passed, he still cant be sure to commit with her. He loved her like crazy. He never said no to any of her wishes, except the most important wish. So they broke up. And she feels like broke. Invested so much love, emotion, care, time, dreams and lost everything. He couldnt offer anything more than the word of love.
Why is that? Why didnt he want to be engaged? committed? She hadnt asked for a wedding and legal documents yet. Whats in his mind? Whats in his heart? After all, did he still love himself more than the big love as he said for her?

I also dont necessarily think engagement always means total commitment. I know so many people that are engaged for years and years and no wedding vows ever seem to take place. To me, that is just silly, JMO It seems to me like its just there holding a promise over another's head without the intention of following through.
