My husband will be served tomorrow. He is mentally unstable and using cocaine. He has gotten himself into debt in his business and with our home spending and taking equity out which I signed but had no idea of anything until I saw how much we owe. We built our home for 150,000
17 years ago and now primary mortg is 355,000 and equity is 114,00.
To make a long story short, i filed against him this time. Last time was joint but we reconciled. He left me to do cocaine. Did not give me anything b/c he said he was not working but was here and there. I did keep a tax check from 2010 that he just filed after I was on him for about 6 months. he kept calling me a Cunt each time I asked him why he wasn't filing.
What can I expect if my husband does not hire an attorney? Will my attorney become frustrated? My attorney is an ex-cop. He did not insist I give him a retainer b/c he knows I have almost nothing. We agreed on a fee for the filing and serving which my lawyer will do in person. He said 450 and has not given me a bill and it has been 2 weeks since I filed.
Gotta go for now. We have a beautiful home with tennants helping pay the mortgage but unless my husband helps in some way I am not sure I can afford it, however I hope to be and RN withing about 8 months and I am pretty sure if I can hold on I can afford it.
Any thoughts?

I have had to do that for myself, to safeguard the little that I have left from my ex's bad spending habits and deeper hole he seems to be digging for himself financially. Good luck, I hope you do manage to save your house, and manage to pull through.
smartest thing you can do is just making sure you have a solid base when it comes to the financial and living aspect of it. So make sure to not just follow your lawyer or this cop blindly. Do your research and know what is what. Make sure to ask for an invoice or talk about payments with this cop/your lawyer. You don't want to be blindsided and trying to claim "ignorance" (that you didn't know) later.

The house is the only thing other than one checking acct. that is joint.
My husband still does have all his flooring supplies in our basement but his business I think is gone due to non payment to his distributors. As a nurse it seems to me my husband has serious mental health and psychologic problems. He is very weird and inapproprate at times.
