There are so many compassionate people on this site, and since this is Father's Day weekend, I thought it would be a great idea if we could share some of stories about our kids. Since I think my son Kris is the absolute greatest person walking the earth, I'd like to share a story about him, to start this off.
In 2002 I had to have open heart surgery, I was 50 and he was 11. When it was time to go into the OR, I was scared, I was almost panicked. My stbx was there but couldn't and wouldn't try and comfort me, my brother and sister flew in from out of state, but didn't have any words for me, my daughter was 7 and hugged me, told me she loved me. Kris waited until last, then came and gave me a tight hug, and whispered in my ear "Be confident Dad". When he said that, all the fear, all the panic, all the uncertainty swirled out of my body, from the top of my head down my toro and left through my feet. That is my last memory I have until I awoke after surgery.
A few weeks ago we were talking, and I asked him if he remembered that, if he remembered why I called him my hero. This is what he said to me.
"Dad I remember that day like it was yesterday. You were so scared, but I wasn't, not at all. Listen to me, you haver always been there for me and mom and Nicole. We always had a nice place to live because you worked for us, we always had good food to eat because you cooked for us, we always had enough clothes, enough books, we didn't lack for anything, especially your love. I was confident that you were going to survive, because we still needed you then. I had no question in my mind that you would get healthy and continue being our dad, because you weren't done yet, we still needed you, and I knew you wouldn't leave us while we needed you so much. When I told you to be confident, it wasn't to bolster you, it was because I was confident."

when rach was little we were standing in line at the bank..(before atms and drive up windows)..while i was doing the deposit..unknown to me she had gotten in my purse and pulled to tampx out and opened them and was whirling in her two little hands like pom poms! i was embarrassed but laughed so hard!
