That's what she provided, for 14 years. It was real, compromise. We each put the other's best interests first. It wore many expressions, genuine, she softened me with the gentle nature of love. What a gift to have experienced this...although apart for a year now, divorce pending - - I do not miss her, rather the thought of her. It would be so much easier to be bitter, I elect to be thankful, have come to terms with my defects and strengths. Just providing a twist to the normal *X* bashing and hope we have all learned valuable lessons from our past. Extra Good Luck all....

I learned some valuable lessons about who I am, and who I am willing to be.
Mostly I learned never to hand the wheel over to someone else.

Thank you for this dear Meddle. I received many gifts of love from my ex, we did have a great relationship for many years. He helped me expand my horizons, see the good in myself many times. We made a good team for many years. I miss what was good in our marriage. I also have reached the point of not missing him, but the family that marriage once represented. You are healing, I believe when we can look honestly at our marriage we are beginning to close the wound of divorce.

I have believed that for nearly every negative experience in our lifetimes, there comes a point where we become grateful for te experiences that led us to that point. It is often so hard to see - especially in cases of abuse, mental illness, great loss. Even so, along the path there have been golden moments - even in the smallest measure and for the briefest of times. However it came about for you, I am glad that it did come about. Thanks you for this post.

My ex told me that I made him a better man.

I don't know if I did or not, but I tried anyway.

And he helped me be less sensitive.

I really don't know who had the tougher task.

Mine made me stronger, wiser, more confident. In ugliness of the situation we find what we are truly made and those that want to pull up off the ground will take that knowledge and experience and use it for the better. I do not hate the guy I just feel I have higher morals and values and refuse to compromise those standards for anyone.

I have made peace with so much and I am still learning as I stumble but this time, I am learning to ask for help and lean on those who lovingly do so....great post!

Beautiful post.

I am not bitter. Absolutely do not miss him. Not quite sure I'm thankful yet. LOL. Just closing doors and moving on. I can't bash. I wasn't perfect. Taking my lessons and carrying on.
