it could be that she feel insecure or trouble finding a balace within herself. the behaviour/attitude she has not only suffocating others but also herself as well. (being too dependent on others is bad for both party involved) And that attitude itself can also blind the person from seeing what is actually real (and cannot make rational/realitic decision) as their view gets too tainted from their unstability/needs/dependence.
Its an issue that arise from within and she needs to get in touch with her innerself to find balance/stability. you should suggest her to get professinal help.
Did she perhaps develop that sense of trying to be clingy because of the distance factor? That might be naturally what many would do or how they would react if they were seeing someone they hardly saw.
You had to be up and talking to her for long hours on the phone? - LDR at times work that way - all ppl can do is talk on the phone so they are doing this excessively because that their way of trying to make up for the absence of the other.
So it sounds that perhaps in your case the LDR situation might not have worked out and you might have to just accept that - many ppl can't make a LDR work.
With regards to moving on a dating again - give that time - it will naturally happen. Getting over a break up takes time.
Good luck.
