Last night I answered a call of a suspicious person. He wasn't found straight away but after going through the area for about 10 minutes I located him. He was walking down the road.

I got out of my car and asked if he was okay. He told me that he needed to go to Snowden (our local place for people with mental health issues). I asked him why. He didn't say. I told him that I was out of my jursidiction (I was slightly) and that I would get a unit from that area to give him a ride. He said that he didn't want a ride by them.

The guy was acting sketchy.

The guy that I was working with showed up and he cut his blue lights on (Not really necessary in my opinion). The mental subject started getting agitated when he saw the blue lights.

He turned away and started walking away. I saw, in the headlights, two cuts on each of his forearm. Each about 4 inches long and at least 1/4 inch deep. Blood had run down his forearms to his hands. These cuts were on the inside of his arms.

I told the guy to stop and sit down. He wouldn't comply. When I told him to stop or I would have to stop him he told me that he would hurt us if we touched him and we would have to fight him.

When he said this I saw his gaze. He had the 1000 yard stare. This look is really really bad and people with this look are EXTREMELY dangerous.

The guy continued to walk away and I saw him do something. I could him cut himself with a knife on his left forearm. At this point I know that he is armed.

I told him to stop. He refused. My back-up decides that we have now walked too far from our vehicles so he went to go back and get his vehicle and he left me. Yes, I am irritated about that.

So I am following this crazy guy down a dark street, I don't have a flashlight, and he starts picking up his pace. Finally he ducks into some underbrush. I don't follow him at this point because my life is in serious peril. I can see him run onto the campus and take off. That was the last I saw him.

I tried to track him and I tried to blood trail him. I was unable to do either. I searched most of the campus and I couldn't find him. There was a real scary moment when I heard a noise behind a set of dumpsters.

WHen I heard the noise I thought that he may have been back there. It was a set of three dumpsters with a wooden fence that was about 6' tall around them. There were multiple entrances to this location.

I did a 360 around it and I didn't see anything. I entered the area at the far end. I slowly moved forward. I then heard a noise behind the last dumpster. I figured that I better clear it and I really couldn't count on backup, based on earlier experiences.

I figure that he is back there, crouched, with his knife, waiting to spring up on me. At this point I have my gun out and I am really moving slow and carefully. I only turn the flashlight on in short bursts so that it doesn't give my position away and it would also hurt his night vision if he was there.

I get up the the last dumpster.....all of the sudden this raccoon jumps out of the dumpster and runs off. It scared the HELL out of me.

We never found him. This makes me nervous because I hope that he isn't dead in the woods somewhere. He wanted help and he was heading that way. Who knows why he wouldn't let me help him but the situation was very tense and scary for me too. The whole time my life was in GRAVE danger. Yeah, it is exciting, but I prefer boring!
