i am still seeing one of my exes.. we are still in love and just seeing where this goes, and how this will work out. we keep in touch and see each other occasionally, and our feelings are clearly mutual. he doesn't make me feel confused, and we're just waiting to see how things unfold and we're both hopeful and positive. so i feel that him being in my life does not bring me any negativity.
but with my first serious boyfriend it was the opposite. i tried being friends with him after we broke up, but he just confused me. he was hot and cold. one minute he loved me and the next i questioned it. one minute i was fine with him being with other people, and the next i was in tears. eventually i cut him off and i made the right decision
and i am friends with another ex of mine, and we have no romantic feelings, we talk on facebook occasionally, don't really ever hang out, and we are both fine with that and things are very stable between us.
so my point is, it all depends on your situation with your ex. if being in their life confuses you, and messes with your head, and just generally brings you down most of the time.. it's probably for the best to cut all contact for a while, or maybe forever.
from the sounds of it, you describe the friendships with your exes to be confusing and draining, with one of them in particular. sounds to me like you may need to cut contact.
honestly if this were a regular old friend, would you keep them around if they made you feel confused and if their friendship was taking a toll on you? sounds like you are hanging onto old feelings and maybe you like the thrill but is this really benefiting you?
