Yesterday I sat down at my computer and deleted every photo and every video of my ex. Fifteen years of memories. I deleted everything. All of our holiday and vacation photos. Every photo of our home and families. I thought of it as an "ex purge".

For a moment I was at peace, real peace that I haven't felt in years. I was feeling rid of him, finally, and I took a nap in the afternoon and actually slept.

But this morning the hurt came back when I realized that it was over, and that I didn't want it to be over, but that I didn't ever want to be with him again. I have been on the emotional roller coaster all day.

And the worst part is, he's dating. It's only been three months, not even, and he's dating.

Oh well. I need to stop focusing on him and start thinking about my own future. It seems impossible right now.

I'm sorry for your pain. I too got rid of most everything too, pretty early on but once in awhile I find things and it really does make my heart skip a beat. It's a painful, sad and depressing journey but try and stay focused on you and what you want out of life at this time. At first I had a hard time getting rid of the pictures, but I'm getting tired of running across them when I don't expect them (cleaning closets, looking for something on my computer, etc) I've gone totally No Contact in order to heal but once in awhile, boom, I find something. It's such a sad thing, I didn't want my breakup but nothing we can do about it now.....but heal. Good luck, keep looking forward and know that one day you won't feel so much pain and sadness. It does seem impossible right now, but I promise you it does get better. I can laugh now, I find joy in life again and although I still think about him on a daily basis, it doesn't always rip my heart out like in the beginning. It's more like a passing thought and most days I just move onto something else. It is definitely a roller coaster ride, so hang on and take it a day at a time. Good luck!

It all comes in stages. The purge is liberating at first, but the hurt comes back. Little by little it gets better with time. roller coaster is such a great descriptor.

My ex started dating and got engaged before we broke up, so I know how painful it is to have someone move on quickly.

I totally understand where you are coming from. I got rid of everything! Deleted anything that was electronic/digital and burned the physical things. Kept the rings and sold them. The only thing I have left is my marriage license as someone on here recommended I keep for legal reasons.

My ex moved in one of his mistresses (there were many) 4 days after I moved out and they were married less than 6 months after our divorce.

I promise you in time it gets better! I never even think of him anymore...his birthday, our anniversary now comes and goes and I dont even realize it!

Stay strong and keep moving forward...things will get better!

the purging was good and very important
