Emotionally tired today

I know that I'm the one that broke things off but why does it hurt so bad??  It's affecting my job and my home life.  Last night I prayed to God not to let me wake up and here I still am.  Tomorrow there is a family dinner with my mom, my kids (whom I share with my a**hole ex, and my a**hole ex' dad who is actually like a father to me.  It's to celebrate our son's accomplishments that he's done this year.  As much as I love my ex's dad I can't even bare seeing him tomorrow cuz of the whole break up situation and I can't ask him not to come. My anxiety is already on 10 with just the thought of tomorrow. Sick to my stomach.

The anxiety surely beats you down, try not to focus on the bad thoughts, tell yourself to stop each and everytime a bad thought pops into your head. Remember to breath and breath deeply and slowly. Focus on the positive things of your son and his accomplishments. Don't fight battles in your head that you think might occur between your ex and his Dad it's a never ending fight that drive the anxiety.

I had similar anxiety about my son's graduation. Bad enough being there with stbx, but his mom as well, ugh. I really was dreading the day. As it turns out, we all survived the ceremony, time at the house, and lunch afterwards. Luckily my brother and wife and 2 kids were at the house after the ceremony and it was a nice day outside, so we played in the yard while stbx and his mom stayed on the deck. At lunch, I strategically positioned myself between my 2 kids, so that was good. I usually am someone who imagines the worst and prepares for it. It takes a toll for sure, but the reality ends up being OK in most cases. You will fare OK too.

I hope you can have a conversation with your father-in-law. Not long before I filed I made a comment to my mother-in-law about being at the end of my rope regarding her son. She didn't really respond, but said she loved me as she left. Since then, she hasn't said BOO about the divorce, and since she's just like stbx and can't handle conflict, I never bothered to bring it up with her. I don't expect to see her ever again. Stbx made that clear to me.

The reason you have anxiety is because you care, you have a heart, and that's a good thing. If I've learned one thing in life it's that feelings don't last forever. You gave your heart so of course these situations hurt. I pray you find strength for today and a good support system to help you heal.

I want to say thank you to everyone of you! Your encouraging words lifted my spirits today. I'm so glad that I found this site. This is a painful process but it's good to know that there are people out there that understand. I'm praying for all of you and asking God for complete healing of our hearts.
