Breakups & Divorce Support Group
Just broke up with someone or in the midst of a difficult divorce? Breaking up is difficult no matter what the circumstances are. They say that time heals all wounds, but sometimes a listening ear or a hug can work wonders for the heart. Whether you need a place to vent, someone to hold you to No Contact, or need advice about what to do, we're here to help.
This is a really tough situation. Many hugs.
I'm really sorry your family is going through this and I know it's very hard. Kids often figure these things out for themselves over time. 13 is a tough age anyway with everything they have going on and it's hard enough when parents split up. I understand that you want to hurt your ex as much as they hurt you and that's natural. But you clearly have your child's best interest at heart if you're questioning telling him rather than just going ahead and do it. That's a wonderful thing. Be supportive and positive...that's what your child needs from you. Hugs!
I might consider telling them if they were older, closer to 18.
If so, it is my opinion that you give him the support and skill set to deal with reality and truth both pleasant and unpleasant.
Hide the truth in order to protect only protects the guilty, if a child needs protection from a parents truth...
I think your son probably knows a lot more than you think.
