I'm making baby steps in the process but I've finally gotten started on writing up the divorce paperwork. Luckily California has everything you need online but what I didn't realize is just how hard it is to see it in writing.
Watching it all print out with the big words "Dissolution Of Marriage" felt to me like a stake in the heart but I know it needs to be done. Luckily there are no kids involved and since we've been separated a while now, we each have the property that we wanted.
I wish that they would reverse the law here to where you have to wait six months to get married but a divorce could be done quickly, say 3 days or so. I'm sure a lot of people have hurt because of all the waiting and the whole process and I know its tearing me apart inside.
I want to be able to move on but I'm an emotional wreck right now looking for a place to happen. I'm not going to lie in that I was actually considering doing something stupid and self-destructive but then I looked at a picture of my granddaughter and myself and I knew there was no way I could do that to us.
I've got friends that have really stepped up with love and support along with everybody here on this site and I want to thank everybody that has reached out to me in this time of need!

Baby steps is all you can do. You're going to have your good days and bad days. Divorce is an incredibly painful process for all involved. You are lucky in that non kids were involved. It's still fresh, so you'll take baby steps in moving on as well, but you can while you're waiting for it to be final. I understand the feeling of doing self-destructive. Thoughts of suicide run through my head on a daily basis, but I couldn't do that to my kids. I'm not to the divorce stage yet, my wife and I are just separating, but at this point, I don't know how much hope I have left of getting things worked out. Keep posting here as you need to. We're all here to support each other.

John, I totally agree I hate the six month thing. I just filed yesterday. You would have to have ice in your veins to not feel the loss and sting of this paperwork and filing it. It hurts so much no matter how long you saw it coming, or how much you try to prepare. All we can do is be patient with ourselves as we go. I just kept thinking yesterday after I filed, why can't that be the final step? wish we could have just done it all that day. Glad you fight those thoughts off and focus on that beautiful baby. You are blessed to have a support system. Hang in there, its got to get better... thats what everyone keeps saying and I am hanging on to that with all my might. ((((( hugs)))) wishing you better days ahead and strength for this moment.

Keep your head up Johnzilla. You're doing great to have the progress at all. I still get on the phone with the stbx after being separated for 4 months and cry. I have looked into the paperwork but it all seems to be so overwhelming that I get filled with anxiety and just back out. I know he won't do it, even though he was the one who wanted this in the first place. Any steps you take are golden, because only you can know your own pace.
