Breakups & Divorce Support Group
Just broke up with someone or in the midst of a difficult divorce? Breaking up is difficult no matter what the circumstances are. They say that time heals all wounds, but sometimes a listening ear or a hug can work wonders for the heart. Whether you need a place to vent, someone to hold you to No Contact, or need advice about what to do, we're here to help.
I came to the conclusion that if I'm going to shed my past's hold on me, that I had to make decisions to step away from toxicity which included my family. I love them....from afar. I no longer yearn for acceptance nor do I tolerate poor behavior. You do what you have to do. I was a target of ridicule and my children had to listen to it whenever there were gatherings. My children would just look at me with sad eyes and in the car, they would tell me that they love me just the way I was. To them, I was all that!
So, what I am basically saying, it is up to you to remove what is not good for your growth or else the roller coaster ride will keep on inserting those coins that keeps the ride going and going and going....
I just went through a heart wrenching break up. Yes, I did....now, I can choose to wallow and get on that ride, or show my growth and gracefully walk on and repair my heart.
Bottom line, it is a choice and it belongs with your because NO ONE can own your power.
It's good to see you!!! IMHO, I say follow your path and what is good for you. Only you know what this is in your heart. You can't live your life for someone else. Hopefully, they will see this and come to appreciate it. I can't imagine them not being happy for your happiness and inner peace. Could there be some jealousy involved?
My family is the opposite. They want to see me happy, they never approved of my ex. I can see why.
You are entitled to move on with your ife and you clearly have - your parents need to learn to deal with it.
Big hugs to you!
Lynne
KD, you cannot please everybody. There exists in everyone a dysfunction in some way and you cannot live to please those who probably can't be pleased. A life lived for other people is not the authentic, true life we all long to have.
You do the best you can with what life throws at you. Keep the kids in mind when making decisions but also follow your joy. I think you inherently know this already.
It all boils down to being true to yourself. Keep pressing on through this as best you can. A fog doesn't disappear instantly. It slowly dissipates and you see more and more of whats ahead of you. Likewise, troubles in life are like this. It lifts sowly like a fog. All things truly do pass. And when you do whats right and true to you, the fog eventually lifts and clarity sets in.
Be that wonderful person you are. Take care of those kids. Live every day the best way you can and everything will fall into place.
That you have had the strength, determination or even just the adaptive qualities to change after a painful life experience, means you're the catalyst for everyone else having to change, or if they want to stay comfortable, try to get you to go back to the role you had.
I think anyone who can hold onto their new script in the face of that kind of pressure, is not just a hero to themselves, but to everyone else as well, because eventually they will just have no other choice but to accept where and who you are, and change in spite of themselves.
So in answer to your original question, I DO think most everyone is doing the best they can with where they are - including us...even if it does mean others feel anxious in response to us.
