Can't put mom and pop in a room together without worrying that another divorce will ensue...they are still rather "friendly".
stbx's family prides itself in their "friendly" divorces.
We have been married 26 years, and had four kids. When our youngest started school, she refused to think about going back to work. Instead, she took up bicycling. She formed a network of friends I didn't know.
I am a professional, make a good income, and have always been a good provider for our family. I have to admit that I became a little resentful at the fact that she wouldn't go back to work, but expected me to continue to put in the hours so that she could have the luxury of staying at home and bicycling. Then, I went through a bad patch at work. The stress of it all led to an angioplasty.
Having hit basically my first rough patch since we had been married, she promptly began an affair with the son of our kid's piano teacher. This loser is at least ten years younger than she is, lives in a tiny apartment, does a paper route for a living, and spends his day biking. She made up her mind to leave me for him the day I learned I was going to have an angioplasty.
I am convinced that she did this so readily because of the example her parents had set her. Her father's affair led to their divorce. He suffered a lot, moved past it, became a better person, married again, and pulled his life entirely back together. He basically is a really nice with whom I get along well. But I thing she took his example as proving divorce isn't that big a thing. So, divorce begets divorce.
One of the saddest things about our impending divorce is to think how she is now setting the example for our kids.
