I'm so sorry this happened. Perhaps she needs to sort things out. While its hard, be available to listen and see how this unfolds. At some point though, you have to say, you made a preliminary decision, you can come back and reconstruct our life, I'm happy to discuss changes by me but reasonably soon, there will be no turning back, I am going to deal with this new life and if you decide its not what you wanted, there will be no coming back.

This is a very hard time, zakes. Please to not use bad habits as a coping skill because you are worth taking care of yourself first. Also take care of the kids. I would also suggest you and the kids get into family therapy so they can talk about their feelings and you can also and find some healing. The kids may see this as mom abandoning them and you may also feel that way. If the wife is willing to be part of family therapy after a while, that might help. Keep writing on here and also respond to other people because that is one way to heal or start to heal. See those smokes as the unhealthy crutch that they are and find new ways to cope with all the huge changes going on in your life. Exercise, therapy, journaling, things some men may say are not manly. There are also divorce support groups that can help you. And lastly, get yourself to a good divorce attorney right now and get legal advice. You don't have to file for divorce right now but you need to know your rights and obligations and you need to protect the kids if she comes back and takes them out of the house and away from you. People do some crazy, self absorbed stuff and then act like others are the bad guy. You may feel that you are a failure as a husband and please do not beat yourself up. Every one of us has failures, flaws, personality issues that we need to improve. Your wife walked out and if she is a total blamer, it will be that you are at fault. Maybe you are, maybe she is, but probably it takes two to have made the unhappy marriage.

Do you know why she left? Would she go with you to see a counselor or a marriage seminar? My wife and I have been to "Weekend to Remember" marriage conferences. (There are other good conferences as well). A local Pastor can help you find the help and support you need. Prayers for your situation! Hang in there and pray for wisdom on reconciling your marriage.

Praying for you! My mom died as an indirect result of The Texas wildfires. I buried her April 3rd. On my birthday Saturday the 21st I discovered my husband has been unfaithful to me. I am stuck in hell currently! I know some of your pain : (
