Breakups & Divorce Support Group
Just broke up with someone or in the midst of a difficult divorce? Breaking up is difficult no matter what the circumstances are. They say that time heals all wounds, but sometimes a listening ear or a hug can work wonders for the heart. Whether you need a place to vent, someone to hold you to No Contact, or need advice about what to do, we're here to help.
Some things that may help you get past this are:
Go no contact if you haven't already. Being in contact with her is only going to keep you stuck.
Take everything she gave to you and get it out of your sight, if you don't want to throw it out, pack it on a box and put it on a shelf-pictures, gifts everything. DON'T LOOK IN IT!!! If you are afraid you'll be tempted to look, ask a friend to keep it for you. Get the momentos out of your sight.
Work on some cognative behavior techniques-when she pops into your head, snap a rubber band on your wrist, or think of something that isn't related to her.
Get out of the house and do something for you. Take an art class, seminar, dance class, anything that interests you. Get out there among people and build a support system. Yes, it's hard, but eventually you will look forward to it, and will meet new people you have common interests with.
Talk to a therapist if you have insurance. Also, talk to friends. Come here and post, and respond to posts. Get it out. If you keep holding it in, it will fester and take forever to heal.
Keep a journal. Not only does it help you to get your feelings out, but it is so helpful to go back and read and see the progress you are making. It is encouragement for you to keep up the momentum.
Try deep muscle relaxation. YouTube it and follow along. It can help keep you calm and clear your mind. Do it at night to help you sleep.
Lastly, gentle hugs. As heartbroken as you are, it will pass. It takes time, but you will get through this. Take things one minute at a time, one hour at a time, one day at a time.

1. Reconnect with your mom and family. You need them now ... they are stuck with you and you are stuck with them regardless of the past. Your mom was right about Chrissy. Tell her she was right. You need the support. Put away the ego ... it's family. We all screw-up.
2. Chrissy is a total POS. She is not worthy of dyeing over.
murph- thank you as well for your advice! These are really useful tools for me!
I understand what you guys are saying. Chrissy is definitely manipulative and what she did was so horribly wrong. I used to be the one saying, "Why don't people just leave if their partner is abusing them? What's wrong with these people? Just get out!" That used to be me. But now that I am in that situation, I understand those that chose to stay. Sometimes it's better than being all alone. I know that it's not worth dying over and that I should have no contact with her, but we were joined at the hip for so many years. It's just impossible, not to mention I miss her unbearably. I feel like I am suffocating, rotting from the inside out.
I have confided in my mom and we have reconnected, which is really good. But I am very unhappy living back at home and long for the way things used to be. I don't know how to handle this or what to do anymore. Chrissy was obviously really sneaky but I lost more than just a lover, I also lost my absolute best friend in the whole world and that's what hurts the most.
But I am really going to try and follow the advice you guys gave me. Thank you and I really appreciate it!
