I did my best to transcribe some amazing thoughts on the word despair that I heard on a New York Public Radio podcast interview with David Whyte, the English Poet and Philosopher. For me his thoughts on despair are very healing. Let me know what you think.

DESPAIR
Despair takes us in when we have nowhere else to go.
We arrange a temporary illusion for ourselves that weve given up hope and its in order just to give up our old hopes, so that some embryonic form of new hope can actually occur. When youve lost a child, or a spouse, or a close friend, youre not meant to understand actually whats occurred. And In fact, they have been holding a certain inner foundation for you that now you now have to come to ground on yourself.
But to begin with you just actually feel as if youre just falling, just falling. You are falling through space and time and nothing is holding you at all.
And because we have no compassion for that state, were constantly trying to jolly one another from despair or ourselves; that means you cant go through the falling to come to the ground.
