I'm facing losing my two little dogs now. I don't know what to do. Do I fight over them? Split them up? If I leave them, I will never see them again. It's tearing me apart, so I'm trying not to think about it until I'm forced to.

Animals just like kids are caught in the middle. Had I known divorce was in the future, I would have never made the decision. Unfortunately I can't talk to them so they can understand. Either way, they are going to feel deserted.

My latest greatest ex and his ex-W had two dogs that they both loved very much. They split them up, even though it was hard to do. My ex then adopted another dog eventually so his dog had a buddy again. That said, the 2 dogs who were split up are both in really good homes and are very loved.

Would that be the case if your dogs were split up? Would he offer the one a great home with a lot of love?

I think I would try and think logically and do what is in the best interest of the dogs. Whatever makes their life easier.

Well he wants them. At first he said that I could have them. Now he has changed his mind. My oldest we picked out together. He prefers me to my ex. The little female is about a yr old. He got her because I wanted her. She absolutely adores him though when she was supposed to be mine. :( I hate to split them up but that maybe what I have to do.

Just a bad situation.

We lived in a house with a fenced yard and we had 4 dogs. I almost stayed in the house for their sake. He left it up to me what I wanted to do. In the end, I could not do that. I hated the house. It needs too much work etc...so I took my cat and the smallest dog and moved in to an apt. His lawyer said it was not necessary for us to put the dogs in the papers. If things would have been bad, I would have. Anyway, he didnt mind if I came over to see them and I did sometimes, when I knew he would not be home. When it came time to send the oldest one across Rainbow Bridge he called me so I could spend some time with her. When I went out of town, he would keep mine.
When he moved my replacement here in November, I stopped going to see the dogs, even when I know both of them are gone. It's too hard. A couple months ago, a situation arose to where I could not keep my dog anymore. I called him, and he said they would take her, which I knew he would. So, I took her and put her in the yard with her buddies. In the end it was best for her. She has playmates and a yard to play in now.
BUT! When I made these decisions I had to make a point of realizing, I could not second guess him. They are his. Of course I knew he would not mistreat or neglect them.
