There is no formula. My feeling is, the more time the better. Having just been a guys rebound who thought he was ready to date, I can tell you it really hurts to be someone's rebound, especially if you are feeling a connection and compatibility and beginning to like the person who is rebounding. I know after a break up you only want to feel better, but don't use someone else to do it. Is not fair to them, and all you are doing is avoiding your feelings. Eventually those feelings are going to have to be dealt with.

If you are one of those who are not looking to get under someone so to get over someone, then I think those entering dating with honest intentions of getting back out there and meeting someone they can have a relationship with, will probably not know until they are in it. I think you will know sooner then later more times than not, but being honest about it with yourself versus wanting to "feel better" is a struggle.

When I tried to get back out there, I knew from the first date, I was prepared to trust another gal. So those first few times, it ended before it started by my choice. Being on the other end of it, with someone who is on the rebound and you being the rebound for them, well, I think I knew, but really wanted to believe it wasnt happening to me. But it was and much like the poster above, it sucked when the realization hit me.

That was:

I meant a gal four months ago . I was only out of a three year relationship for three months . I as missing my ex gf, and I was not initially attracted to her.but after several dates I realized we had a lot in common , more than my ex. we have been taking it slow, no sex. and it has been working out well

When I was with my ex, I always thought she wanted a Father, not a partner (her dad is cool btw), she took up with a 20+ year old Married man when she cheated.

Its unfortunate dude. I am sorry, but there are some things I guess even the best of guys can't fill for some gals. I guess hers was her pockets.
