Breakups & Divorce Support Group
Just broke up with someone or in the midst of a difficult divorce? Breaking up is difficult no matter what the circumstances are. They say that time heals all wounds, but sometimes a listening ear or a hug can work wonders for the heart. Whether you need a place to vent, someone to hold you to No Contact, or need advice about what to do, we're here to help.
We must try to understand that, in many cases, they may have been struggling in their own heads with their falling out of love, for years. They may have been trying to get back to love us, and those shows of affection were their way of doing so. Finally, they just gave up one day; they admitted to themselves that they can't succeed in getting back. They were playing games, surely, but they may not have been aware of it, and they were playing with themselves too.
Of course there are some truly selfish and wicked people out there, but I don't think that's the majority. Most people are just confused, immature, imperfect human beings, trying to sort their own mess out and making plenty of mistakes along the way.
Although these sudden unexpected departures make it extremely difficult for us to get closure, we need to learn that closure must (and WILL) come from within us anyway.
We need to understand that they own themselves. Neither we own them (to make them take us back or give us the closure we so yearn), nor they us (to make us feel worthless or like we cannot go on in life unless they allow us by giving us closure).
I understand why my wife left me. I do not understand/accept why she won't come back, but that belongs to her, not to me. And while she thinks that I'm not worth a single additional day of her life, I happen to think that I am.
I don't know whether you feel any guilt for your own actions or lack thereof, or if they just left you because they were flimsy men who could not resist a younger face. It's not really relevant, it says everything about them and their fears, weaknesses or unresolved childhood/past-relationship issues, while saying nothing about your worth as a human being or as a desirable, wonderful, caring, and fun partner.
In my case I had learn to accept loving someone is a choice and my ex wife has chosen not to and I had to brace myself for the hurt that came with accepting this sad truth and decided to work on becoming the best version of myself.
I am not free of pain and sadness but I am slowly making progress one day at a time. You will surprise yourself once you come to terms with what is. Hope you find your own inner closure.
You feel you deserve better, and you are right.
Eventually he will quite likely open up, but right now he's going through his own grieving process in his own way. Going full no-contact is a good idea in any case where reconciliation is not an option, which is my wife and I are doing (although the no-reconciliation part is entirely on her side).
Try not to expect anything from him, it will only hurt you. It's unfair to you.
