Yet, I must also share the fact that I gave to my daughter the same love, the same care, the same attention and she is a mean, horrible person to me. Every opportunity she has to hurt me she uses with no remorse. Her reaction towards me is that I brought her into this world and the world (mostly I) owe her.
I don't know why she is like that, tried therapy for years and never worked. Now she is a single mother, completely irresponsible with her child (this is why I am raising the baby) and nothing moves forward.
The statistics show a raise in parricide and maticide (own children killing parents) and I can understand when there is severe abuse. But what happens when there was never abuse, only support and love and the child grows up to be a monster?
I wish I knew what I did wrong so I don't repeat.
I know for a fact that if I'd had more help with my children my marriage would have been better. I think about all those years where I was exhausted by my children and their needs. If I'd had some help I might have been able to put some more effort into having a good relationship with my husband instead of being worn out, tired, cranky and grouchy when he came home.
To be fair to myself, he worked too much too. I begged him for years to switch to a different profession or to move to a cheaper state so he would have more time at home. He wouldn't. Work was to important.
Nothing, I mean nothing would have changed my marriage with the exception of a whole lot of counseling and sobriety.
He's just a manipulitive jackass for a husband. I do believe he saw me as one of his children and not his wife or friend.
I gave him 15 years too many after I started noticing his real personality. I know I am one of the few, but my STBX has always put the kids first. I will give him that much.
But our son's issues sent my ex to the bar to drink....a total collision course.
THings got better when in the divorce I started playing hard ball, and he had to stand by his word.
We get along well enough now. Probably better than 90% of the ex's out there. Not friends, but cordial to each other. And more respect than ever before.
I quit my high paying job to stay home raising our children. I took children in from their school for extra money, but mostly to help the parents out from having to pay expensive daycare bills.
When my daughter was old enough, she started hating that I was wasting my life being home instead of working. My daughter and I haven't talked in years, she's 21 now, I think it's been about 7 years.
My 16 year old son still cares. I think he's trying to get my daughter to speak with me, but that's not his job.
Since I started dating an ex boyfriend from college, things got worse. His divorce fell through because his wife doesn't want shared custody. Legally, he's married, emotionally he's been estranged from his wife 9 yrs.
Even though my daughter dislikes me, she is successful in college. She was raised right.
My son is and always has been an amazing althlete, and also gets good grades.
I meet with administrators from his school (both went/go to a Lutheran H.S.) and my son is well loved by all. They ask me to coffee because they know my divorce has been hard. They watch over my son, they don't need to, he's happy. I went to the same H.S., so I know a lot of the faculty.
And, to answer your question, I gave my ex every minute of my time. He gave me moments of his time. He left me after the birth of our daughter to meet his friend at a strip club, I have no idea what he did after the birth of our son, but my best friend was there.
My ex had 2 major accidents, along with many minor, his last major accicent is what put off the divorce.
Each accident made him more hostile to me the children, everyone. He was realizing he's not super man.
But, once I filed, he tried to turn the children away from me. I was the bad person.
I don't think it worked with my son, my daughter, maybe someday she will come around.
