As a Lutheran, my pastor told me last week, "You made an oath to God, that until death do you part. Well, hasn't your marriage has died? Your family as it was has passed on, your love for each other as husband and wife gone? You are grieving, you are grieving the death."
I WANT your pastor in my church =)
Scarlet - Cogratulations! I am so happy for you that should you decide to marry again you can have a beautiful church wedding if you want to.
You made a great point about grieving the death of the marriage. My civil divorce was final in 1999. Although I remarried (civil JP ceremony) in 2002, it took me 8 more years to reconcile my part in the demise of my previous marriage, examine my conscience and move on spiritually. I believe an annulment is a vehicle with which to finally and fully move on.
Now I am a typical bride to be, worried about losing weight and guest lists lol.
