Can A Broken Relationship Be Mended?

8 years, 2 kids... we both have engaged in multiple affairs.. I’ve always left and had very short flings.. I never knew I was struggling with depression until now.. he has a hx of depression.. lack of communication.. avoiding confrontation on my part and leaving the relationship for a few months at a time... I’m trying to win him back.. I’ve finally realized my problem was depression and I had shitty coping strategies.. I’ve matured, quickly over the last few months and realized I’ve truly lost my best friend and I am devastated. My heart has never felt so broken. I always believed in him and love him more than anything and knew he would change.. he was ready.. I wasn’t until now.. NOW I’m ready and he won’t listen.. he said he is moving on.. nothing i can do can change his thinking.. I’m SO DEVASTATED.. I want our family back together! We all make mistakes.. I have changed and know it will be different this time if I went back.. my whole mindset is different. I’m looking into a therapist and willing to change so much... how do I get past this? I want to keep fighting.. I DONT WANT to give up because then I’ll be giving up on our family.. can a relationship like this be mended????

This is very difficult but doable... trust is one of those things that can so easily be lost but takes long to gain. He probably feels betrayed and does not believe in the change... if you really love him, show him with actions, show him with love... be consistent and don’t give up. Eventually he may come around once he sees you are truthful.

Mr_G.. thank you! In my heart I feel as though this could work out if he is on board too... I am more than willing to take the necessary actions to show that I am capable of change, starting over and building trust and rebuilding our relationship! I PRAY so hard he comes around.. I do not want to lose him.. our kids needs us together and we need to show our kids a stable loving relationship!

Anything is possible. I know just where you are at my Ex and I went though the same exact thing. I called it the merry go round. I finally was so tired of it all I got off! I left the county...for real! anyway, he was my best friend and lover. My advice to you is just what Mr. G says. But remember to stay consistent, love from a distance, show you are for really this time for change. You may not see each other alot if he is giving up but just remind him that you are still here and be PATIENT. understand that it might take a wk or a yr for him to truly see and believe a change.
get some counseling if you can or read articles on co- dependent / destructive relationships to learn from your mistakes. I hope your able to save your relationship. Good Luck

Same here. We are stuck in the back and forth between me and the affair partner dilemma. My wife is so confused. We got divorced but we are still married. Married in two countries.

She now say she will quit her job and we will leave without him knowing with me next week. I suggested this.

I have no idea what to think. Will she follow through, who knows. My advice, you can try, but at the same time, you must focus on your happiness without the other person.
