It’s been a while since I’ve posted on this site. I’ve gone through all the sorrow and emotions most of you are going through now. I remember how horrible every day of every minute felt. It’s been about 4 months now since my breakup and it does get a bit easier with time. There will be pockets where you will be happy without thinking about your ex. I know it seems unimaginable right now especially if your fresh from your breakup, but that’s where I am now.
This may not work for everyone but in the hopes it might just help one person I’ll share what got me to this point. When the breakup first happened I didn’t know what to do with myself. I felt like every second I was awake I was wasting my life. I felt like I didn’t have a purpose anymore and I could no longer see a future. I was lost in my emotions and no matter how much I tried to cry it out or just get it out of my system it seemed as if it was never ending. There is a point though when you realize enough is enough. That no one person has no control over your life or happiness expect yourself.
That’s when I decided to be my own hero. To show and prove to myself that in the worst time of my life that I was going to keep fighting and not let the sorrow get the best of me. I started by trying to think logical about what just happened instead of letting my feelings get in the way. Sometimes things just don’t work out even though it once “was” amazing. I never had closure which made it difficult but you have to realize your own true worth. You probably put your ex on a pedestal which makes you feel like you lost something that you will never have again, but you need to put yourself on that pedestal instead. You need to realize that your ex is also losing. They don’t get to have you anymore. They won’t experience your warmth, touch, or love anymore. What it comes down to is they just weren’t happy anymore and you don’t want to be with someone who doesn’t care about you like you do about them. Remember what is truly important which is your happiness. Being in the relationship might be even worse than being broken up now. Do you remember the bad times in the relationship when they just disconnected. How that made you feel? You can’t live like that. You are now free to live your life like you always wanted to.
I then decided to challenge myself and take a fitness challenge. What started as a challenge became a life style. I focused my energy on self-improving myself. I now in the best shape I’ve ever been in. It has helped my physical health as well as my mental health. When those times came when I said just stay in bed I used my breakup as motivation to keep going. I wanted to make sure that it wasn’t going to stop me from achieving my goal. Don’t let someone who no longer is part of your life stop you from getting where you want to go.
I then started to do things out of my comfort zone. It was another challenge I put on myself. There were things that I thought about doing or trying but just never did (either cause I scared to or just didn’t have the confidence to do so). I used my new found motivation and freedom to do those things. You start to realize that life is too short to just sit and watch. You never know what you’re capable of until you just do it. It’s empowering!
The end result is that you get your self-esteem back and you start to look up to yourself. You realize that you are catch and that someone will be pretty damm lucky to be with you.
Our ex’s were a learning experience and we are most likely better off because of it. We take what we can and move on. When forever finds us we will be ready, but until then live your life how you always wanted to. Treat yourself like you deserve to be treated. Be your own hero, look up to yourself, and keep moving forward. Every day is a brand new day and anything can happen. Don’t let those days pass you by cause any day could be a life changer.
