I'm meeting with an attorney this week for an initial consultation. Any advice or suggestions on what to ask, etc. No minor children so custody is not an issue, however, income and debt and retirement will be issues. Especially retirement benefits.

I did this last week. I'd just suggest to make a list of any questions you may have before you go. That way you don't forget to ask anything. Also find out the hourly rate for the lawyer and the paralegal.

I would say you need to research the divorce laws for your state. I did and had even more questions for the atty. Also try to gather up all financial records to show the atty.

I took bank statements and retirement statements on three accts. Plus evidence for filing under adultery on the ex. Do your homework first and it will save time and money. Also realize that any attorneys you talk to your stbx can't hire.

That also worked well for me. I interviewed three attys in my small town that limited the ex's choice on who he could use to represent him
