Breakups & Divorce Support Group
Just broke up with someone or in the midst of a difficult divorce? Breaking up is difficult no matter what the circumstances are. They say that time heals all wounds, but sometimes a listening ear or a hug can work wonders for the heart. Whether you need a place to vent, someone to hold you to No Contact, or need advice about what to do, we're here to help.
I'm sorry that you're going through this. I can't imagine what it must feel like to have to separate with such a long history together. You're definitely in good company here, though. Keep posting and reading and remember that you're not alone.
You wrote that you realized that through counseling you were trying to save the marriage, and she was trying to get you on board with ending it... that's a huge realization. Hold on to that truth - it will remind you that you have had different goals, and that while you might be compatible in many ways, you are not compatible in what you want from each other anymore. It's a hard but important truth. You deserve to feel loved as fully as you love, yourself.
I hope that you've considered seeing a therapist on your own. They might have good ideas for ways to get your (physical and mental) health back on track a bit, and for navigating what is a very difficult and painful process. Sending you lots of positive thoughts.
I think my stbx (first time I used that abbreviation) has got the hint to stop texting me about daily activities. I have been trying to go NC as much as possible but it's difficult when we are still living together.
I can imagine that telling your kids will be a very anxious time. Remember that they're going to take their cues on this from both of you. This is going to be a big change for them, but it's an even bigger change if their parents are no longer civil or are always at emotional extremes. The more calm and respectful to each other you can be around them, the sooner they'll adjust to whatever your new situation turns out to be. I'm glad you've got a supportive therapist at your side - it can be invaluable.
Just know you're not alone.
