Here is what they said. The best way to handle yourself at bars is to go to the middle stool--not the ends. On the middle stool, position yourself sort of sideways, so it appears you are available for conversation. Put the phones and Blackberries away.
Also, no telling stories of any ex boyfriends or husbands, and not tales of woe, this is a a good time. Not getting drunk as the good guys really aren't in for a drunk woman.

I have found one's where there is live music, and no one thinks it is strange for a single woman to show up to enjoy the food, a couple of drinks and the music.
Some other places seem to have the reputation of being pick up joints and guys can be a pain there, because they are convinced a single woman is looking to be picked up.
Good luck. Just go for it, and test the waters in the places near where you live. You might find some locals there who would enjoy some new company. Enjoy getting out!
