Shantelle, since you have no children and no property, you might want to do a do it yourself dissolution. a disolution is where neither party is contesting anything. if you can both agree on everything, you can file the papers yourself at your county courthouse. call the courthouse and tell them that you would like information on how to do a do it yourself disolution. they will give you examples of what others have written up and you can imitate those with your wording.

it would probably cost each of you only about $150.00.

you might want to do some internet searching for do it yourself disolutions. especially in lousiana. every state is different.

I'm in PA and around here a lot of the counties have websites where you can print off and fill in the forms for a divorce. Its fairly easy if you can do it that way.

Sometimes you have to go on the website for your conty's Bar Association for the forms. It just depends where you live. If you can't find free forms, call your local Bar Association and they may be able to tell you how to get them.

AND you can go to the library and read a DIY book on divorce, that will help you step by step to fill out the legal paperwork.

I don't know the regulations in your state. However, I printed out the papers to file for the divorce and filled it out. As long as you and your stbxh are cooperating and made a mutual agreement the divorce should go through without going to courts and getting lawyers involved. I turned it in and only had to pay a small fee.

My ex and I have a child, but he agreed to give me sole custody. I accepted not to divide our assets he kept everything. I could have fought for the material and financial crap, but it would have turned into a painful legal and financial battle. I got my son, so it was worth it. Also we both mutually agreed the amount of child support he had to pay, went to the child first classes. He just signed the papers to agree, so just waiting on them to send me the divorce decree.

Also, if you file for the papers idk if this goes for your state to. If he doesn't respond for a period of time given by the courts you will get a divorce by default and what ever stated on the papers you will receive. You really have to research your states divorce regulations.

Faithful is right if it goes uncontested you can just file it yourself. Very easy and pretty quick (well however long it takes them to process the papers and send the decree).

I paid $160.00 (because we have a child) but without child is $125.00. Filing fees go according to state, so that's something you might want to look up.
